On July 9, 2005, the first anniversary of the International Court of Justice
ruling on the illegality of Israel’s Wall, over 170 Palestinian civil society
organizations issued a Call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions
(BDS) to be directed against Israel until it complies with international
law and universal principles of human rights. This conference will examine
why Israel’s policies towards Palestinians are apartheid policies. It will
explore the role activists can play to respond to the Palestinian Call for
BDS, and to help create the kind of pressure that will be needed to move
the region “beyond apartheid.”
